Born in Rapid City, South Dakota, Coach Roberts graduated high school class of 1995 at St. Martinville Sr. High School (Martinville, Louisiana). Here he was named Class 4A Mr. Basketball, Region 4-5A Player of the Year, All State 1st Team, and Footlocker Louisiana All Star Game Dunk Champion. Following his high school career by way of Neosho County Community College (Chanute, Kansas), Coach Roberts graduated Coastal Carolina University with a B.S. in Sports Administration class of 1999. As a Chanticleer, he was Streets and Smiths Magazine Best Dunker in the Big South Conference and Big South All Conference 2nd Team 1998 and 1999.

After college Coach Roberts began his coaching career working team and individual camps at Coastal Carolina University and Lander University from 2000 to 2008. Following, he became Basketball Director and Assistant AD at Camp Kennybrook; High profile sports summer camp.
